Term 4 Week 4 2024
Te Hēnui River Science
At Welbourn, our learners have been exploring the Te Hēnui River, getting to know and understand more in their Science learning. In the Huatoki team, students are now exploring what lives in our river. With expert help from Nicky Toothill and Richard Carr, who work with our regional council in environmental education, they have managed to identify all sorts of living things. A lot of fun and a lot of great learning. Thank you to them, the teachers and the parent help for the learning support for our tamariki.
Board of Trustees Vacancy
A vacancy has opened on the Welbourn School Board of Trustees elected parent representative due to the resignation of an elected Board member. Being a member of the Welbourn Board is a rewarding task and a great opportunity to give back to an excellent primary school.
If there are any parents or caregivers within our Welbourn School Community who are interested in joining the Board, please contact Alistair Simmers, Presiding Member (Chair) of the Welbourn School Board by email at alistairs@welbourn.school.nz
The Board wishes to fill this vacancy by selection rather than going through an election process. If 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held. Request for a by-election should be sent to: Alistair Simmers, Presiding Member (Chair) of the Welbourn School Board alistairs@welbourn.school.nz by: December 5th, 2024.
Ngā mihi Alistair Simmers, Welbourn School Presiding Member
Parking at Welbourn
The NPDC and Police have increased their patrolling of parking around all schools to help improve the safety for children and parents. It is important for all parents to use the designated parks, in the correct way when dropping off in the morning and picking up in the afternoon.
Parents that park for in the 10 minute parks on Arawa St for an extended time make it difficult for parents wanting to drop off or pick up. Having these parks used for a short period of time helps with the flow of traffic and a safe place to stop. We also have parents & grandparents that have a disability and rely on the two disabled parks on Arawa St for pick up and drop off.
Parking on the grass area (berm) at the top of Cumberland Street opposite Welbourn School, which is across a footpath is not safe. The footpath is used by many Welbourn & Highlands students and parents.
NPDC are issuing tickets to drivers that park illegally or drop off or pick up while stopped on the yellow lines outside the school gate. If tickets are issued, they have nothing to do with Welbourn School. We can only encourage our parents to follow the rules.
As the weather is improving parking away from Arawa Street, where there are more parks and walking (Park & Walk) is a great option. Forming these simple routines with your children will make it safer for all.
