Term 4 Week 5 2024
Science and Engineering Fair 2024
Congratulations to all the students who put together a Science Fair project for this year`s Science and Engineering Fair. Each of you should be proud of the effort you put in to your entries, some of which are on display in the corridor by the library. On the day, you conducted yourselves wonderfully and we have some prizewinners to celebrate. Best Technical Award went to Laken Osborne, Asher Simmers, Archie Bracegirdle and Kiran Lal. In the costume category Francesca Pascoe took 2nd place. Our two spot prize winners were Elissa Sherrie and Aarush Khanolkar. Well done !
Student Writing
Willa in Room 12 has written a haiku worth sharing.
Te Henui-The Great Mistake
Let's call for help now
Our enemies are coming
We will get ready
A message goes out
A message came back “We’ll help”
In the night help came
A battle broke out
They thought they were enemies
Lots of people died
The rumors are fake
Waikato never came though
It was a mistake

Parking at Welbourn
You may have noticed that the NPDC and Police have increased their patrolling of parking around all schools to help improve the safety for children and parents. It is important for all parents to use the designated parks, in the correct way when dropping off in the morning and picking up in the afternoon.
Parents that park for in the 10 minute parks on Arawa St for an extended time make it difficult for parents wanting to drop off or pick up. Having these parks used for a short period of time helps with the flow of traffic and a safe place to stop. We also have parents & grandparents that have a disability and rely on the two disabled parks on Arawa St for pick up and drop off.
Parking on the grass area (berm) at the top of Cumberland Street opposite Welbourn School, which is across a footpath is not safe. The footpath is used by many Welbourn & Highlands students and parents.
NPDC are issuing tickets to drivers that park illegally or drop off or pick up while stopped on the yellow lines outside the school gate. If tickets are issued, they have nothing to do with Welbourn School. We can only encourage our parents to follow the rules.
As the weather is improving parking away from Arawa Street, where there are more parks and walking (Park & Walk) is a great option. Forming these simple routines with your children will make it safer for all.
