Term 4 Week 7 2024
Huatoki Speech Finals
On Monday the 12 finalist from the Huatoki Team took part in the speech finals. The finalists had been selected as the best speeches from their class. There was a great range of topics and all the children did extremely well to confidently present their prepared speech in front of the Huatoki Team, some Y3s and some parents.
All finalists then had to give a 30 second impromptu speech about ‘My best memory of Welbourn is ….’. Katrina Lilley & Mrs Gibson had the tough task of judging. The winners were: 1st Place - Fletcher Plant 2nd Place - Ava Summerell and 3rd Place Amali Horton.

Hauora
As we come to that time of year when we can get somewhat frazzled and overwrought with all that is going on , it is important to pause , breathe and remember to schedule in some self care. At Welbourn, we use these 6 pillars of Wellbeing to remind us. It may be useful, so we thought we would share it.
BOT Vacancy
A vacancy has opened on the Welbourn School Board of Trustees elected parent representative due to the resignation of an elected Board member. Being a member of the Welbourn Board is a rewarding task and a great opportunity to give back to an excellent primary school.
If there are any parents or caregivers within our Welbourn School Community who are interested in joining the Board, please contact Alistair Simmers, Presiding Member (Chair) of the Welbourn School Board by email at alistairs@welbourn.school.nz
The Board wishes to fill this vacancy by selection rather than going through an election process. If 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the board, from the date of our first public notice which was three weeks ago, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held. Request for a by-election should be sent to: Alistair Simmers, Presiding Member (Chair) of the Welbourn School Board alistairs@welbourn.school.nz by: December 5th, 2024.

Science Roadshow
A group of Welbourn learners had the opportunity this week to go to the Science Roadshow. Here are some words from Finn, Willa and Samuel.
SCIENCE ROADSHOW
On Tuesday, a group of students went to Highlands Intermediate for the science roadshow. We saw Zac Reid, the Olympic swimmer just when we were about to go inside. We started with a talk and a couple of experiments. Following this, we got some time to look at the many rows of experiments and puzzles. There were many buttons to click and lots of fun interactive stations. One of the experiments was the luminescent wall. You would put your hand and body parts on the wall and a bright light would flash behind you, then you could see your shadow. Another one was infinite patterns. You spin it very hard and it would create infinite patterns. The favourite for a lot of people was the spinning chair - you would put a strap on and hold two weights that were 1kg each. You pulled in your arms to go faster and out to slow down. Next, was the body part build when you had to construct a body out of many people. To finish off, they showed us some more experiments like elephant toothpaste, and dry ice, and taught us about physical and chemical changes. It was a fun experience and we learned a lot.
