Term 4 Week 1 2024
Welcome
Tena koutou katoa, nau mai hoki mai ki ngā whānau. A very warm welcome back to school for term 4. A special welcome to our 17 new tamariki that have started this term, we know you will enjoy your time at Welbourn. We are looking forward to another busy term, with improving weather and hopefully less sickness. Regular attendance of our tamariki is very important to their learning and social development. The Ministry of Education states that 90 - 95% attendance is the expected level for all learners. This includes children being on time to start the day at school. Days off school or regular lateness can have a negative impact on their learning, both academically & socially. As a school we are here to help, if you are needing assitance to get your child to school, please see your child's class teacher, Patricia Gibson or myself. Ngā mihi John Carr |

Sun Protection
As we are now in Term 4, we need to make sure that children are being protected against the increased UV rays of the warmer, sunnier weather. Our Sun Protection Policy states children should wear a brimmed hat (360◦) when playing outside in T4 & T1. Classrooms also have sunscreen available for children to apply when needed, but we do encourage that sunscreen is applied at home in the morning, especially if your child has sensitive skin or you prefer a certain type / brand of sunscreen. Welbourn School hats can be purchased at the office for $16, if your child needs a hat, but a brimmed hat of any kind that your child may already have is fine. Getting into the habit of keeping a hat at school or in their schoolbag ensures that they can play outside during the school day. Fresh Air Challenge
On the last day of term 3 , we had Krisstal from NPDC come to Welbourn to present a $200 Torpedo 7 voucher, because Welbourn had the most walkers during the Fresh Air challenge. She presented the Golden Foot award to Mrs Gibson with support from the Welbourn Let`s Go team. Congratulations to everyone who made the effort to take part in this challenge.
Road Safety
We have noticed several parents crossing Cumberland Street with their children, recently. As a result another student, without a parent, followed . This is a huge safety concern for us and we ask that all parents please use the crossing at all times so that everyone gets to and home from school safely. Thank you in anticipation of your support.
Book Cover competition winners
Our BOOK COVER competition at the end of last term during Book Week was wonderful and it was amazing to see so many great entries. Our 4 runners up were from left to right ; Natalie Cuilliford, Montana Kee Sue, Frances Jenkin and Aljo Decena. Our overall winner, seen below under our four runner up entries, was from Sophia Alhabsyi. We know they are all very proud of their entries and they are well deserved winners. They made it very difficult for the judges to make a decision. THANK YOU to everyone who entered!
